In addition, Sean Shea is a full time Registered Home Inspector (RHI). This is the only home inspector designation recognized by the Ontario government under Bill 158. The home inspection industry is not regulated in the province of Ontario, and, as a result, anyone can call themselves a home inspector regardless of training or experience. An inspector's membership in The Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) protects the consumer on several fronts. Firstly, inspectors registered with OAHI are required to follow Standards Of Practice and a Code Of Conduct. Secondly, we are required to meet education requirements, complete competency testing and training, submit to peer reviews and stay current with trends and techniques in our profession and home construction in general. This is done through mandatory training and education upgrades.

If you hire an inspector who is not a Registered Home Inspector they have no obligation to follow the Standards of Practice or the Code of Conduct, nor are they obligated to undergo any form of training. In fact, you may not even receive a formal report. Unless the experience is well-documented, most people won't remember all the important details or have anything for future reference.

I provide a comprehensive report to serve as your guide for as long as you own the home. It not only describes the house components and their condition, but also provides insight into what improvements will be necessary, and when. Unlike reports that are hand written on site, I deliver a comprehensive document which includes details that cannot be included in narrative or point form style reports. Your report will also include pertinent photos and access to hundreds of pages of detailed information about your home. And this is delivered to you within 24 hours of the inspection and often on the same day.
